Cluster-O-Pictures

I put this up in the family room yesterday.... Hopefully it's not too late to jump on the whole cluster-picture-frames-on-the-wall bandwagon. Or whatever it's called. I really like it though :)

Thoughts. In Bullet Point

So, I attempted to write some things down, and I decided to start all over. But use bullet points instead of trying to write some cohesive blog post. So here it goes:

• I had a killer Valentines Day with John. We kept it very casual and went out to some laid back bars. We discovered how awesome a tequila tonic is. I don't care what anyone says, tequila is so good, and it's my favorite liquor.

• I haven't lost any weight. Like, the number on the scale hasn't moved, despite all the exercise and cutting of calories. Although, I feel thinner, I feel that I look thinner, my clothes fit better, and John says that I look thinner. Oh well. Ultimately, that's all I care about. I am having so much fun going to the gym. I love my new discovery of spin class. I love doing yoga. It is so peaceful. I get a burning in my bossom and feel uplifted when I do yoga.

• We FINALLY ordered our living room furniture. It won't get here for 8-10 weeks. Which is bittersweet because that's a long time, but that gives us enough time to hopefully finish all the final touches with everything else we want to complete for the room. Hopefully in April, there can be a big "before and after" reveal.

• I returned that lame key holder from Target. I don't know what I was thinking. If I'm going to spend $30 on a key holder, it should be extraordinary. And I did get something extraordinary. But you can't see it til the big reveal.

• I am absolutely addicted to design blogs and websites right now. Especially betterafter.blogspot.com, because this is precisely what we are doing for most of our furniture.

• I'm pretty much set to get A's in my classes this quarter, and have already registered for next quarters classes. On the docket is Statistics 243, and Public Health Education 250 (community & health). I'm very excited.

• I'm excited to be getting my hair done tomorrow.

• John and I are going to Costco with Daphne tonight. I love Costco. I also love that we can eat dinner there for $5.

• I redesigned my header and I really like it. And I'm thinking about going private on the blog.

Before and After

I should have done this a looooooooong time ago.

{Before}

{After}
I think it was the hardest for me to let go of Daphne's long hair. We have been contemplating it for MONTHS. First Daphne wanted short hair, but I wouldn't have it. Then I wanted to cut her hair because I was so tired of dealing with it, but Daphne wanted her hair to grow out like Rapunzel in Tangled. I knew that it would be for the better if we cut her hair short now, and she could have long hair when she was older and better able to help take care of it, so I told her she would look like Rapunzel when she cut her hair at the end of the movie!

So, I'm happy. Daphne's happy. We're all happy. And best of all, no more getting food in her hair, getting it caught in her jacket zipper, or crying when we brush it. Hopefully.

Thoughts On Valentines Day

Does any one else get a sense of underlying resentment associated with Valentines Day?

"It's sad, but it all basically comes down to recreating a romantic Kay Jewelers commercial. You know, the commercials that actually shatter any sense of gender equality while shamelessly setting back any feminist progress a few decades. Kay Jewelers apparently believes that all women are pitifully dependent upon men, and are also terrified of thunder. Their commercials might as well just say, "Every kiss begins with 'K'... And so does kitchen, so get her a new diamond necklace to thank her for all the work she does in there. It ain't easy being a baby-maker, after all."

Breaking News

Ok, so I hope y'all caught my drift with my last post- pointing out that furnishing and decorating this house is moving at a snails pace. I blame this on my anti-pack rat tendencies. Up until last night I didn't have a routine place to put my keys!

I finally broke down and picked up this key holder at Target. Everything just feels better when I know that my keys are hanging in the most logical place- by the door.

I think the only things left for the entry are an entry table, picture for above the table, and maybe a rug.

One other sense of accomplishment I had yesterday was finally hanging these pictures. Aside from these, the only other things in this room is Lenny and Kats perch.

I also picked this up at an antique store the other day. A great place to empty the pockets at the end of the day.

A place for everything, right?

I will never be an interior decorator

I could spend several minutes trying to type out what I wanted to say, or I could just direct you to this. Because she took the words right out of my mouth.

THIS is College?

So, today I get to class right on time. I like to sit in the front and towards the end of the row. I make sure that I am early enough to class to 1) ensure that there is a seat available like that and 2) to not disturb anyone by walking in late as I try to find a seat in the front.

Today I was able to sit right in the second row, and on the end. I settle in and the professor starts the lecture. About 10 minutes after class starts, I hear someone come in and sit right behind me in the third row. Immediately after I heard this person sit down, I smelled a very strong odor which I assumed was their breakfast.

Ok- it's one thing to bring your meal to class. It's another thing to bring your very pungent meal to class and sit by a bunch of people in the front. IF I ever bring anything to eat in class, I make sure to sit away from people so they don't hear me eat, and to not bring in something that will smell so that everyone doesn't smell what I'm eating. On top of that, this person proceeds to crinkle some sort of wrapper for TWO MINUTES, as if there were some sort of issue going on which made them unable to get the food out of the wrapper. This was the loudest crinkling of paper I had ever heard.

Then, they proceed to eat whatever it was they had brought to class. Not only am I smelling it, I am hearing them eat AS they CONTINUE to crinkle the paper.

What. The. Hell.

This story brings up something that I have been mulling over for a few weeks now. I have been observing my fellow classmates since I have returned to school this last fall and I have not been left with a very pleasant impression. Maybe it's because I am older than a good portion of them? But I'm not even sure if that's it... there are a LOT of people who are my age or older attending PSU. In fact, the average age for a PSU student is 27. That's how old I am. And after class was over and I was able to look at the gross person sitting behind me, I observed that she was about my age.

The issue I have been having is that for the past few months, I have observed the following:

  • People picking their nose in class and wiping it on their clothes (more than one person, and on more than one occasion)
  • People talking extremely loudly while the professor is talking- so much that the professor had to stop and ask them to be quiet. AND THEN THEY HAD THE AUDACITY TO TELL THE PROFESSOR WHY THEY WERE TALKING AS IF THEY WERE JUSTIFIED.
  • A question and answer discussion last for at least 10 minutes because the majority of the class did not know how to write a 3 page APA style paper.
  • Someone's cell phone go off in class, twice. In a 2 minute time span. And they laughed when it went off the second time.
  • Someone answer their cell phone and have a short conversation on it after the professor passed out an exam
  • Someone showing up to an exam at 10:00 smelling like alcohol
I think that's about it. This term has had a bit more of these occurrences for some reason, and particularly more so in my Human Development class. I'm not sure why. OH! Something else I have noticed lately, is how much middle aged women (like in their late 40's) love to sit in the front of the class and comment incessantly. They just LOVE to talk about themselves. And their children. I hope I never get like that. But, hopefully I'll be out of college before I reach that age.

Is it only Wednesday?

This week is kicking my butt! I don't know what it is, but I usually feel like the week flies by. This week feels like it is dragging on and on and on...

Today was particularly rough, especially for Daphne. We have been having abnormal weather: bitterly cold, clear, sunny, and dry. All this has caused Daphnes hair to be very staticky and hard to brush. This morning I spent at least 5 minutes brushing her hair while she was freaking out and crying. On top of that, she kept complaining that her ear hurt when I touched it. Pretty sure it might be an ear infection.

After the hair brushing fiasco, I realized that the sweater she put on had a huge hole in it. So we went to her room to change it, and when I pulled the sweater off it apparently caught her eye. So we had to deal with that for a few minutes.

We finally got on our way to school. Then I developed some sort of stomach ache. Mostly extreme bloating and cramping. I tried to work it off at the gym, with no luck.

I picked up Daphne only to find her covered in sand. In the hood of her jacket, in her hair, on her scalp, in her shoes, down her pants, everywhere.

On the way home she went on and on about how a boy at school dumped sand on her. So, I put her in the shower and got completely soaked as I tried to scrub sand out of her hair.

I am so done with today.
