Goats

Today we went to the Portland zoo. At the zoo they have a petting area with goats. We all went inside and began frolicking with the goats. Then John pulled out a paper napkin from his pocket to wipe his nose and the closest goat franticly tried to eat it. Noticing the situation, John put the napkin back in his pocket, but before he knew it, every goat began huddling around him- trying to get into his pocket, trying to eat his shirt, and sniffing his crotch. 5 goats began outnumbering John... We ended up leaving the petting area in a hurry.

It was hilarious.

Conversations with a 3 year old

***I tucked Daphne into bed tonight. Just as I was closing the door:

"Mommy?"

"Yes Daphne?"

"I want to eat Aurthur" (a boy from school.)

"Ok Daphne. You're silly."

"Yes, I'm silly."

***On the way home from work today:

"Mommy are you happy?"

"Yes, I'm happy"

"Why are you happy?"

"Because I love you."

"Oh, ok."

***At Target tonight- I hold a shirt up and ask:

"Daphne what do you think of this?"

"I like it. It fits you."

Daphne's been keeping us busy lately

For weeks now Daphne has been obsessed with being a cat. She'll get down on her hands and feet and crawl around meowing. She won't answer to Daphne, and insists on being called "kitty-cat". We'll ask her questions and she'll respond with "meow". She's taken this to a whole new level the past couple of days and started taking her clothes off when she wants to pretend to be a kitty cat. I think this is because she has noticed that cats don't wear clothes. John and I were having a conversation and Daphne comes from around the corner on her hands and feet- naked.

Yesterday, we went to Good Will to get a baseball bat. On the car ride home I hear John say "Daphne has the baseball bat and she's hitting it against the window!!!"

Yesterday morning I hear Daphne getting up and out of bed at 8:30. John and I were still in bed, but hearing her woke me up. I knew that at any moment she would come into our room to wake us up like she always does. I waited for several minutes and began to realize that I didn't really hear her anymore. I started to think how lucky I was that she was letting me sleep in and not bothering me. But that soon turned into suspicion. If she wasn't bothering me, and was being really quiet, that means she's doing something she probably shouldn't be doing. After about 10 minutes I got out of bed to look for her.

She wasn't in her room. I went down stairs. She wasn't there, but all the lights were on. I turned and looked down the other set of stairs to the front door just in time to see her open it and walk outside. I decided to not say anything and see what she was up to. She was in just her pull up, a shirt, and some flip flops. And she was holding a DVD. I decided watched her from the front window, to see what she would do.

I watched her walk down our stairs, walk to the end of the drive way, pause, check to make sure no cars were coming, cross the center driveway (in between the two rows of town homes), approach our car (which was parked in a driveway across the way because no one is living there right now), check to see if the car door was unlocked, and begin to walk back. She kept checking to see if cars were coming in the most paranoid way. She's really afraid of cars hitting her. She walked back up our stairs and walking inside. When she saw me she had the most surprised and embarassed look on her face. I asked her what she was doing and she explained to me that she wanted to watch her movie in the car. After all this I went down to our ground level floor to see what she had been up to down there. All the lights were on there too. Even in the garage. So I think she tried to get in the car that was in the garage first, and when that didn't work, she decided to try the car that she knew was outside.

If I hadn't gotten up, she would have done all of this unsupervised.... Looks like we need child locks on the front door....
